CSR
Our vision is to create opportunities for people to fulfill their personal promise. In underserved communities worldwide, we want to help people change the course of their lives and take personal ownership of their future and their potential.
Because we want to make a deep and lasting impact, we think beyond our capacity to write checks to nonprofits. We believe our greatest opportunity to bring about social change is to leverage our corporate assets — our management, our vendor relationships, and most importantly, our employees. In fact, we believe our employees are our biggest community asset. With over 3500 skilled employees , we see enormous potential for them to make a difference through their talents and passion for volunteering.
We believe that to sustain our efforts as social investors, we need to ensure that all stakeholders in our community benefit from our work. This "virtuous cycle" includes the neighborhoods and nonprofits we serve as well as our employees, customers and shareholders. Not only can our work help build stronger communities, it engages our employees and attracts both consumers and investors. We see this collective benefit as the best way to create sustainable social change.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
We manage environmental impacts in three areas: in the supply chain, both at our first tier supplier locations and, in some cases, further down our supply chain (for example with the manufacture of fabric), from the transportation of our goods and from our store, warehouse and office operations.
Respect for the environment is an integral part of BASE and our supply chain’s business practices. Through responsible acting and innovative thinking we contribute to sustainable use of raw materials and energy, pollution prevention and a low-carbon emitting society.Base only makes use of environmentally friendly dyes and chemicals. It has also setup an ETP to add life to its surroundings.
Our business operations rely on our planet’s natural resources. We believe that our success should not come at the expense of the environment, so we strive to operate in a way that is mindful of long-term environmental sustainability.
We believe we have a responsibility to use energy wisely and efficiently. By working to reduce energy use in our stores, distribution centers and headquarters buildings, we can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a primary contributor to global climate change. Not only does increasing our energy efficiency reduce our environmental impact, but it's also good for our business.
OUR BUSINESS PRACTICE
The long-term growth and success of BASE Textiles goes hand in hand with ensuring a sustainable future for the planet and its people.
At BASE Textiles, we believe we should go beyond the basics of ethical business practices and embrace our responsibility to people and to the planet. We believe this brings sustained, collective value to our shareholders, our employees, our customers and society. So, we have taken part in various environmental and social development activities.
Base strictly adheres to business ethics and discourages any misconducts. We have a commitment to provide our employees with fair and safe working conditions. We respect the balance between home life and work and have set up welfare facilities, such as: medical-care, day-care, transportation and financial-assistance for our employees. Concern for the well being of our employees is fundamental to our business along with respect for their basic human rights.
We arrange regular training, at every level, in order to stimulate teamwork and the sharing of responsibilities. In line with the International Labour Organization (ILO) we will not tolerate, or allow child labour, forced labour, racism, exploitation, discrimination and harassment of workers.
WORKER WELFARES
BASE believes that a congenial and secure work-environment leads to increased productivity and industry-low turnover rate. So, BASE provides employees with safety much higher than required by law. So, BASE's workforce is always motivated, and prepared to tackle volume orders in brief lead-time.
Base's strict adherence to business-ethics consists of the following measures:
*No Child Labour - We don’t allow child labor and without observing all legal requirements for the work even for the part time job, use of underage worker according to local laws is strictly prohibited. Rather, we invest in educating children, all over the country.
*No Forced or Compulsory Labour - We strictly do not to use forced labor as we treat the workers as our great assets where forced labor is defined as any work or service which is extracted from any person under the threat of penalty for its non-performance or unwillingly offering. All workers are allowed to leave factory premises after work at any time as far as in compliance with statutory regulations.
*No Discrimination or Harassment - We engage the worker on the basis of their ability to do the job rather than on the basis of gender, age, disability, caste, ethnic, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, social background and other personal characteristics. All of the workers treated equally in compensation, benefits, hiring procedure, job assignment, retirement provisions, access to services etc.
*Worker Welfares - Base supports its workers by setting up welfare facilities. An adequate canteen, safe drinking water and hygienic lavatories, ensure that workers are content with the workplace. There is a full-time medical-center, financed totally by Base and a facilitated day-care center for the children of working mothers. Base provides financial assistance and production-bonus to its workers. Workers are also provided with transportation, to and from the factory. We also installed good number of different fresh room and wash facilities for male and female workers. We also provide Sufficient Pure drinking water for all workers. A large shaded area has been used as Dinning hall and we have different space for praying.
*Training - We provide all production workers, during orientation and ongoing training, instruction in general factory safety and in the safe operation of their machines. Workers are trained and supervised in the safe performance of their assigned tasks before being allowed to operate machinery on their own. We conduct effective training and communicate information to workers regularly. Posters should supplement oral training, videos, announcements and written material and other graphic aids prominently displayed in the factory so that workers with limited literacy understand factory safeguards.
*Worker's Safety - For the safety of its workers, Base has: updated lighting, ventilation and ergonomics; set up noticeable warning signs in the local language; and implemented usage of needle-guards and metal-gloves. The work-place has clearly demarcated emergency exits; smoke & fire detectors and fire-hydrants, in case of emergencies.
*Management of Hazardous Materials - All chemical substances are labeled and all workers are adequately informed about the danger of chemicals, and trained in proper handling of hazardous or poisonous substances.
*Women at Work - We always ensure that female workers receive equal treatment in all aspects of employment. Pregnancy tests are not a condition of employment. We don’t force on workers to use contraception. All of the pregnant workers receive statutory maternity leave according to law. Appropriate female toilets are equipped with adequate facilities.
*Annual Entertainment Programs- We arrange annual entertainment programs, such as picnics, Mezban (cultural festival), Bengali New Year, Christmas, etc.
*Wages and Holidays- Wages are essential to meet workers’ basic needs and we are committed to the betterment of wages and benefits according to national laws. We provide satisfying wages - substantially higher than the legal minimum- within 10th of every month and overtime bonus.Workers’ can enjoy sufficient holidays & leaves in support of national laws.
